If you suspect a mineral deficiency, there are several ways you can solve this. In this article, I will list a few things you can do.
Symptoms can vary a lot, depending on the mineral deficiency you have:
• Cramps
• Muscle twitching
• Tooth decay
• Heart palpitations
• High blood pressure
• Fatigue
• Brain fog
• Arthritis
• Calcification of tissues
• Osteoporosis
• Anemia
• Poor digestion
• Constipation
• Dehydration
• Loss of appetite
• Loss of taste or smell
What you need to do before anything else: eat a good, nutrient-dense diet.
The best diet for humans is a Weston A. Price type of diet.
Weston A. Price was an American dentist who travelled the world in the 1930’s to visit isolated tribes all over the world. He wanted to understand why Americans had such poor health, especially a poor dental health with tons of cavities.
He compared the diet of primitive people on the 5 continents and he compared their health to the health of « civilized » people living in the same areas.
Even though the diet of primitive people differed widely depending on the area on earth where they lived, they all had in common a traditional diet consisting of whole, local, unprocessed foods. All of them ate animal products (meat, fish, seafood, dairy products, eggs) and plant foods (vegetables, fruits, grains).
They had a perfect health, almost no cavities and they were not afflicted by diseases that were rampant in the « civilized » world.
The primitive people Price visited, all « worshiped » specific animal foods that were very rich in vitamins and minerals: butter made from the milk of cows fed with rapidly grown grass in Switzerland, fish roe in Peru, organ meats and animal fat in north America, fish organs in Scotland, fresh steer blood and raw milk for the Maasaï in Africa…
They prepared their plant foods in very specific ways to make them easy to digest: they would soak their nuts and seeds, sometimes for days to remove the anti-nutrients. They always made bread with freshly ground flour and sourdough starter.
In Peru, they would bring their potatoes up a mountain to let them freeze before crushing them into a powder.
Most of them never brushed their teeth and yet they had no cavities and perfectly straight teeth.
He made analysis of their foods. He discovered that their foods supplied from 2 to 8 times the minimum daily requirements of calcium and phosphorus and up to 28 times that of magnesium!
In our modern world unfortunately our food is grown on very depleted lands and sprayed with toxic chemicals. Most of our food is very poor in nutrients, highly processed and toxic.
You need to buy the best quality possible: organic whole foods, grass-fed and/or pasture raised animal products.
You need to prepare your plant foods correctly to make them as easy to digest as possible.
And you need to eat organ meats as often as possible.
Do you want to know what the ultimate super-food is? Liver. Liver is the most nutritious food you can eat. It’s very high in vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin D, vitamin E, very rich in iron, copper, phosphorus, zinc…
Our ancestors would eat organ meats first and feed muscle meat to their dogs.
If you have symptoms of deficiency, the first advice I will give you is to eat liver.
Then, I will recommend that you eat soups or broths, especially bone broth, that is rich in amino-acids such as glutamine, proline and arginine, essential for the health of your tissues, especially your joints, tendons and gut lining. It is also rich in minerals such as silicon, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus, especially if you throw vegetables in your broth.
And my last recommendation would be for you to drink vegetable juices.
Eating lots of vegetables is actually better because we also want the fibers, but if you have a sensitive gut, you might not tolerate much fibers… and you’ll get larger amounts of the goodness in vegetables in juice form.
Vegetable juices are very rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium, provitamin A, B vitamins especially vitamin B9, vitamin C and vitamin K1.
Oh and of course, GET ENOUGH ANIMAL FATS into your diet. Fat soluble vitamins A, E D and K are essential for the assimilation of other vitamins and minerals in your body. Eat more animal fats than vegetable fats. You need vitamin D to absorb calcium and vitamin K2 for calcium to get utilized correctly. This is just one example, as the synergy between vitamins and minerals is so complicated and perfect at the same time:
I could have put sea salt in the previous paragraph but I think it deserves a whole paragraph together with seawater.
Seawater has been recommended by doctors for thousands of years.
Hippocrates recommended it as enemas for fevers and worms, Pliny the Elder, Alexandre de Tralles, Caelius-Aurelianus, Avicenne, Actuarius, Richard Russel… all recommended seawater treatments.
The Tsar Peter the Great even made an experiment to see how nutritious seawater was: he gave sailors nothing but seawater to drink for 10 days… of course they all died… Because even though it’s a perfect mineral supplements, the body needs more than just minerals!
More recently, in the beginning of the 20th century, french Doctor René Quinton studied seawater extensively and wrote the book « L’eau de mer, milieu organique : constance du milieu marin originel, comme milieu vital des cellules, à travers la série animale » where he shows that the origin of each animal group is marine. All animal organisms have a marine origin, their organism is a true marine aquarium.
Quinton came to the conclusion that the blood plasma has the same salts than sea water, in the same same order of importance and in the same ratio:
1: Chloride, sodium
2: Potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur
3: Silicon, carbon, phosphorus, fluoride, iron, nitrogen (ammonium)
4: iodine, bromine, manganese, copper, lead, zinc, lithium, silver, arsenic, boron, barium, aluminum.
He treated successfully thousands of patients with seawater injections.
Other doctors came to the conclusion that ingesting seawater was actually as efficient as injections.
Seawater is a great natural mineral supplement. It has the perfect balance of all the minerals that the body needs, in the right ratios. Because all these minerals are together in the right proportions, you don’t take the risk of causing imbalances.
Before trying seawater, you can actually just use unrefined sea salt in your food, as much as you crave. Seawater though, is superior to sea salt because seawater is « alive », it is structured water, with a very specific electromagnetic field and it has a specific balance of micro-organisms.
Don’t be afraid of salt. I’ll have to write another article about that because there is so much to say, but you should know that sodium is essential for so many processes in your body. It is necessary for the fluids homeostasis of the body, sodium chloride is also necessary for your stomach to make hydrochloric acid for digestion.
Your body is intelligent and it always does its best to survive. If you crave salt, it’s because your body needs salt. Listen to your body.
Another important detail to know: the more veggies you eat, the more potassium you get, the more sodium you need. It takes three molecules of sodium to get one molecule of potassium inside the cell. That’s why herbivores need so much salt. Plants are rich in potassium, they are very poor in sodium.
If diet, sea salt and seawater didn’t solve your problem, if you have muscle twitching, constipation or low levels of vitamin D, you can supplement with magnesium.
I don’t love the idea of supplementing with one isolated mineral, but our modern diet is very depleted in magnesium, so it makes sense to supplement it from time to time… Our body needs lots of magnesium to function, especially during stressful situations. Stress burns up lots of minerals, especially magnesium.
You can either use magnesium oil on your skin, or you can drink magnesium.
My favorite is Nigari salt, that is natural magnesium extracted from sea salt. It is unrefined and contains other trace minerals.
To make magnesium oil, just mix nigari salt into distilled water, as explained in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TatK3rqWjjg&t=21s
If your skin is very sensitive though, I prefer to recommend it internally, as followed:
Mix 20 grams of nigari salt in 1 liter of clean water (preferably not tap water), let the salt dissolve completely.
Drink half a glass of the mix per day, until you finish the bottle. If you want to keep supplementing after that, take a 10 days break and repeat.
If you get diarrhea, gas or bloating from it, take a smaller dosage. You don’t want to get symptoms from it. If you do, it’s because you took too much.
I find it easier to tolerate (and to drink) when I mix the juice of half a lemon in the glass.
Magnesium chloride is also a great remedy for any flu-like diseases: drink 1 glass as soon as possible, then drink a glass (or half a glass, depending on how you tolerate it) every 2 or 3 hours the first day. Drink only 3 glasses the next day, then only 1 glass per day for a few more days.
It boosts your immune system and enhances vitamins C and D absorption.
Doctor Jean Valnet recommends clay for arteriosclerosis, tuberculosis, aging, multiple degenerative states because of its high silica content. He recommends clay for asthenia, demineralization, cancerous conditions and anemia because of its richness in magnesium, iron and calcium.
Researchers have shown that the colloidal form of minerals can be absorbed by living organisms, unlike the neutral amorphous or crystalline form. When in suspension, clays are colloids, which allow the absorption of the minerals that constitute them.
Studies show that the iron in smectite clays can be partially assimilated by the body, since ingestion of these minerals increases the consumer’s blood iron content.
